Kimberley Country

The Gibb River Road is one of the supreme adventures in Australia, as it transects the wild heart of the Kimberley through a spectacular landscape of intensely coloured ranges, dramatic sheer red rock gorges, lush rock pools, waterfalls and varied ecosystems. Then there’s the wildlife and indigenous culture. When one is awed by the incredible gorges and swims in what feels like sacred waterholes it’s hard not to understand the fierce connection to the country that local indigenous people hold. We feel that riding the Gibb on a bike is not only an amazing challenge but also an almost spiritual experience that will leave you with a connection to this Australian outback landscape that’s very hard to forget.

The trip along the Gibb is touted as one of the last serious adventures in Australia, and that is for 4WDs… on bicycles, we are taking it to the next level! Read more

Simpson Desert

The Simpson Desert is the largest parallel sand dune desert in the world, covering some 143,000 square kilometres, so to ride across it is definitely an amazing achievement! Red Sand dune country, despite its designation as desert, is actually alive with fascinating specifically adapted wildlife like the giant Perentis that surf down dunes, Marsupial Moles, Thorny Devils, Hopping Mice, Hairy Footed Dunnarts, and even Spencers Desert frogs that burrow under the sand and live in suspended animation for years. After a night under the incredibly starry desert night skies, one wakes to find the dunes crisscrossed with tiny tracks and it’s clear the Animal Kingdom has been busy!

Riding a fatbike through this red dune country is a unique experience and the camaraderie and hubris of The Race adds an extra element of fun whether you want to be serious or just enjoy!

The Simpson Desert Bike Challenge has been running since 1987 and with today’s fatbikes it’s probably a little easier than back then. There’s nothing like a 5-inch tyre at 6psi to help you roll over thick sand. Even so, the Simpson Desert Bike Challenge definitely lives up to its name, so one needs to be prepared and the Race Committee has careful supervision including medical checks. We are very happy to accept non-riders for this trip as well. Read more

Canning stock route

The Canning Stock Route is the longest historic stock route in the world and one can only wonder at the incredible hardiness of the early pioneers who used this route to open up trade from the rich grazing country of the Northwest to the burgeoning markets of the gold fields to the south in the early 1900s. It stretches nearly 2000 km through three deserts and over some 900 sand dunes and is called the loneliest 4WD track in the world. It has only been ridden by a handful of people, so if you are looking for an adventure unique in the world, get in touch!

The bonus to riding this iconic desert stock route is the fascinating colourful history at every turn and the stunning scenery from dune country to red rock gorges and rugged desert ranges. As a Stock Route, it’s all about water – and the stories behind the early surveys, well sinking and searching for native water holes bring to life an era when real adventure was just a part of life in the outback.
